Baruch HaShem. The living hostages are out of Hamas captivity. May the deceased come home in the next few days. I woke up at 2 AM naturally, no alarm needed. I need to witness history as it happened. 20 living hostages, held by Hamas for 738 days.
Thank you all to those who got me through the last two years. Friends, Jewish friends and my non Jewish friends who supported me. The texts and emails and conversations will not be forgotten.
For my friends who remained silent while I struggled with the deaths of Hersh Goldberg, the Bibas family, and more, I am sure you had your reason. The murders outside the AJC event in DC and the firebombing of Run For Their Lives Boulder. These deeply affected me. The amount of hate that exploded in the last two years.
I will try to forgive “my friends” who said that the fire bombing was justified. That I deserved it for advocating for the release of the hostages. To those who are not just anti-Israel, but to those who want to obliterate the country of Israel, I hope for peace. I hope for the day when Israel will stop being hated because it is the home of the Jewish people. Israel is a beautiful melting pot of citizens who come from many religions and nations.
But I really appreciate my friends like Mary Kennedy who consistently was a fierce advocate. Whose posts and words strengthened me from afar.
To my friends at R4TL, I can’t imagine how I would have survived the last two years. The sacred space that was created. We came each week. We prayed. We sang. We hoped. We advocated for the release of the hostages. We mourned those who died.
My Hadassah friends have been there with me for the last two years and I know we will help heal Israel.
I hope the living hostages heal. I hope those deeply affected in Israel heal and learn to live each day with acceptance but also are strong enough to ask for help when needed.
The people of Israel are strong. I look forward to my visit there in a few weeks.
The Jewish people have paid a huge price. The loss of life in October 7th and beyond. The suicides of the survivors (and their loved ones). The explosion of antisemitism and the explosion of people stating that Israel should be abolished.
May the people of Gaza (the ones who lived under Hamas in
fear) rebuild and heal. May there be peace.
I will ALWAYS remember the 1,200 we lost on October 7th 2023 and the initial 251 hostages.
